Brooklyn Free Space is a preschool for children ages 2 years and
six months old–4.8 years old. The school enrolls 62 children each year
in its four classrooms––Jitterbug, Dragonfly, Sunshine and Rainbow.
Each classroom serves a specific age range. Full-day students attend 9
am–3 pm; half-day students (in Jitterbug and Dragonfly classrooms only)
attend 9 am–12:30 pm. See below for daily classroom schedules.
(2 years, 6 months, to 2 years, 11 months*)
The Jitterbug Room is staffed by three teachers and serves 12 children. There are approximately 4 half-day slots and the rest are full-day.
(3 years to 3 years, 6 months*)
The Dragonfly Room is staffed by three teachers and serves 15 children. There are up to four half-day slots and the rest are full-day.
(3.6 to 4 years*)
The Sunshine Room is staffed by three teachers and serves 16–17 children (all full-day).
(ages 4 years, 1 months, and older*)
The Rainbow Room is staffed by three teachers and serves 17 children (all full-day).

Recreation
The
Big Room is a large indoor common space filled with safety mats, play
equipment for climbing and sliding, tricycles and other large toys.
Weather permitting, the children often take a short group walk to JJ
Byrne Park's playground at 5th Avenue (between 3rd and 4th Streets) for
supervised outdoor play. Occasionally, children take group walks to
explore nature and sights and sounds around the area.
