Applications and the Selection Process for 2008-2009

Brooklyn Free Space begins its admissions season in January. We strive to reflect the diversity in our community. We accept applications from children who will be age 2.5 to 4.8 as of Sept. 30th in the year of admission.

We select new members by general lottery; if necessary, a waiting list is created based on this lottery. Brooklyn Free Space balances classes by age and gender. Current students and siblings of current or former students receive priority for open slots, before the general lottery. Seats not filled from the lottery or the waiting list will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis as applications are received.

To accept the admission offer and secure a place in the next class, families must sign a Statement of Agreement and provide a deposit check representing two months' tuition, to be applied to January and June. One additional deposit (representing the tuition for September) will be due by June 1. In addition, the annual materials fee of $250 must be paid before the first day of school in September.

If you are an alumni family that wishes to enroll a younger sibling, please be advised that, although you need not participate in the lottery, your child's enrollment ultimately depends on space available in an age-appropriate classroom. In order to enroll your child for next year, your deposit must be received by January 2, 2008, the deadline for deposits from returning current members. In the unlikely event that all spaces are filled by current returning members, we will notify you immediately and return your deposit check.
